 I am happy to announce that I won the first prize of a nationwide amphibian photography contest in India. The winning picture (above, but differently cropped here) shows a male Bombay night frog (Nyctibatrachus humayuni) calling next to an egg clutch in its environment above a forest stream.

I was in India to study the reproductive behaviour of these very interesting frogs. The Night frog genus (Nyctibatrachus) is endemic to the Western Ghats, one of the biodiversity hotspots. Several new species, genera and even a new family of amphibians from these mountains have been described  in the last decades. Another picture (below) of the same species received a special mention. Looking back at those pictures I really look forward to visit this region again. Hopefully in the near future…
