Past spring we found a special Alpine newt (Ichthyosaura alpestris) during fieldwork. It is an adult male, but has a very short body, while its head, legs and tail are normal sized. It is the first time I see an amphibian like this and I do not know if these abnormalities often occur. Below you see the animal (right) next to a conspecific male with the usual proportions (left).
